See detailed in: Psychological syndromes

Manic agitation

Origin

In all madness the Hun is affected by energetic obstruction of the Liver and emotional blockage. A depression may come from Liver-Qi stagnation with Phlegm accumulation. Stagnant Liver energy transforms into Fire, which disturbs the Hun and in turn harms the Shen. The generated Fire condenses the Phlegm, and the Phlegm blocks the Heart and Shen.

Symptoms

  • Anger, violence with insults
  • Breaking things
  • Hyper-excitation (Heart-Fire)
  • Not eating or sleeping (Heart-Fire)
  • Exposing oneself in public

Treatment

PC and HT points to eliminate Phlegm and calm Fire. If there is Liver-Fire and Heart-Fire, also drain the Liver. The ancient texts say there is Full-Heat in Yang Ming, which affects the Heart and Shen. Evacuation is important to eliminate the Heat.

Calm madness

Origin

Madness implies Phlegm accumulation from Spleen stagnation. This Phlegm obstructs the Heart-Shen and causes Liver stagnation. This should not be confused with obsessive and agitated people, from Liver and Spleen energy stagnation.

Symptoms

  • Expressionless face
  • Talking to oneself, quiet
  • Crying for no reason, melancholy
  • Obsession (always going over the same thing)
  • Lack of appetite
  • Cannot sleep and wake up many times

Treatment

Treat Liver, Spleen and Heart to eliminate Phlegm.

Epilepsy

Origin

It is caused mainly by Liver-Wind with Phlegm that obstructs the brain (the pure orifices) and Du Mai. Many epilepsies are due to emotional problems, a Liver that provokes Wind. Under emotional shock, there will be those who become mad and those who don't, depending on their constitution and emotional state. Also involved:

  • Kidney: most often appears in young people/children during developmental periods. This implies that the Pre-Heaven Qi is weak. It may be due to emotional states that weaken the Kidney.
  • Spleen: foam in the mouth indicates Phlegm. One must review the diet to avoid Phlegm formation.
  • Heart: the body has a lot of Phlegm because it loses consciousness (Heart-Shen affected). When attacks last a long time they weaken the Heart.

Symptoms

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Syncope
  • Convulsions

Treatment

Tonify the Kidneys to prevent premature exhaustion.
