The choppy or rough pulse is the opposite of the slippery pulse, it is a pulse that has difficulty arriving. Sometimes it seems to disappear, without being arrhythmic.

  • "Like a serrated knife scraping bamboo". It is also described as feeling like fine hairs or sand.
  • It is somewhat related to the parasympathetic nervous system; the heart pumps blood with less force.
  • It belongs to an Empty pattern.

May indicate

Lack of circulation, of fluidity of the Blood.

  • Blood deficiency. If Blood is deficient, Yang cannot transform and Qi-Xue becomes stagnant.
  • Cold-Dampness enters the Blood: Blood stasis, pain.
  • Accumulation, stagnation: Phlegm, masses, excess of food does not allow Blood to circulate. Thicker Blood.
  • In women: menstrual disorder.
