Clinical Case: Female 40 Years Old, Digestive Problems, Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Chief Complaint

Digestive problems (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)

Clinical History

For the past 5-6 years she has suffered from: heavy digestion with flatulence and easy weight loss, postprandial somnolence, intestinal borborigmus, pasty stools, haemorrhoids, bitter and pasty mouth. Preference for hot or room temperature beverages. Normal sleep but with nocturnal pollakiuria. Sweating in thoracic region. Irritability. No headache or dizziness, no ear problems. Heaviness of legs. Marked premenstrual syndrome. Menstruation every 28 days, red colour and abundant quantity. Tongue with red tip and edges with greasy and white coating. Fine and slightly tense pulse.

History: postpartum nervous depression, recurrent cystitis and allergic rhinitis

Diagnosis

Weight loss is a transformation problem (Spleen). Dampness accumulating (pasty stools, borborigmus, postprandial somnolence,...): non-transport.

The Spleen problem also involves the Liver: a stagnation (from the history) that remains there, Liver and Spleen disharmony

The Spleen, rather than deficient, is blocked by dampness. It must be unblocked.

Treatment

Drain the Liver, release the Spleen, eliminate dampness
