Clinical Case: Female 46 Years Old, Palpitation and Dyspnea

Female 46 years old.

Reason for consultation

Palpitations and dyspnea.

Clinical history

The patient has a history of chronic heart disease. The diagnosis of Western Medicine is aortic insufficiency. She has had episodes of palpitations and dyspnea for 2 years. Lying in bed does not relieve the palpitations or dyspnea. Heart rate goes to 130 bpm. The patient cannot do any physical exercise. The slightest effort causes her discomfort and loss of breath. Even sitting sometimes causes her difficulty breathing. She has been hospitalized for a long time due to cardiac arrest. Currently her dyspnea worsens whenever she tries to move. She has cold in her whole body and limbs, easily catches cold. She complains of generalized pain throughout the body. She sleeps poorly and wakes up easily during the night for no apparent reason. She has scanty clear urine and constipation (she has a bowel movement every X days but the stools are soft). The face is dark without luster.

Violaceous tongue, pale with greasy coating

Fine and rapid pulse

Diagnosis

  • Heart and lung
  • Empty pattern
  • Tachycardia: yang escaping

NB: if the yang escapes more she may have cardiac arrest.


Therapeutic principles

  • Strengthen heart and move blood
