The cause is normally excessive reflection, mental activity, worry. Example: student during exam periods, with nervousness and lack of concentration. Excessive reflection exhausts Heart-Blood. Spleen depleted, cannot transform and nourish the blood that nourishes the Heart. Heart (Fire) produces Spleen (Earth), so the weakness of one affects the other. Symptoms:
- Palpitations
- Insomnia
- Abundant dreams
- Poor concentration, poor memory
- Tendency to be worried and restless
- Poor appetite
- Physical and mental fatigue
- Abdominal Distension
- Loose stools
- Subcutaneous ecchymosis
- Irregular menstruation, profuse and pale menses, metrorrhagia, scanty menses or Amenorrhoea
- Pale tongue with white coating
- Fine and weak pulse
