Heated Needle

Heated Needle

Aguja calentada

Heated or warm needles are widely used for back and shoulder pain. A ball of good quality moxa is kneaded into the handle of a needle inserted into a point and lit with incense. The heat penetrates through the needle. Ideally the needle should be perpendicular to the treatment table. Accessories can be used to protect the patient from accidental moxa falling on the skin, such as a piece of aluminum foil. Exercise extreme caution.
