According to the generating sequence:

• Metal is the mother of Water. The Lungs are the mother of the Kidneys. The Lungs send fluids to the Kidneys and their Qi descends to meet with Kidney-Qi. See: Kidney-Yin deficiency.

According to the controlling sequence:

• Metal is the grandfather of Wood. The Lungs control the Liver. Lung-Qi descends and Liver-Qi ascends, if Lung-Qi is insufficient and does not descend correctly Liver-Qi ascends excessively becoming pathological. See: Liver-Fire insulting the Lungs
