The organ Heart forms an Interior-Exterior pair with the viscus Small Intestine. Being connected, what affects one can affect the other.

Both belong to the Fire element, with Heart manifesting its more Yin aspect while Small Intestine manifests the more Yang aspect.

When Heart-Yang increases significantly or Fire is produced, this can also affect Small Intestine, consuming fluids and creating abnormalities in defecation and urination: dry stools, scanty and dark urine, blood in urine.

At the psycho-emotional level the Heart governs our mental-spiritual life in the sense of housing the Shen.

• The Small Intestine gives us the capacity to judge and decide clearly.
• In the same way the capacity to make decisions is reinforced with a clear mind.
