The rebellious Bi syndrome or Wan Bi is more chronic and serious because it is a mixture of excess and deficiency. It is very limiting. The obstruction of Qi circulation due to external factors is more prolonged, the vital energy (Zheng Qi) is weak. To this is added Phlegm and Blood stasis. Usually it settles deeply in the joints.
Symptoms
- The pain is violent, stabbing, well localized.
- Joint limitation, great stiffness and important deformations. Movements are very painful. The skin around the joint is altered in color.
- It gets worse at night and depending on the weather (if it comes from Damp-Heat it worsens with heat, Cold-Dampness it worsens with cold).
Damp-Heat
- Symptoms of Heat-Inflammation: redness, heat, edema
- Thirst, dark urine, ...
- Pulse: rapid, rough and thin (obstruction and the blood cannot fill the Mai)
- Tongue: red (slightly cyanotic), yellow coating
Cold Dampness
- Joints deformed but cold (palpation or patient's sensation)
- Generic cold symptoms (frequent and abundant urine...)
- Pulse: slow, rough and thin
- Tongue: pale or purplish, thick white coating
Treatment
- Tonify internal organs and eliminate external factors: BL-23, BL-20, BL-18, ST-21
- Heat treatment can be done like that of Heat Bi and Dampness Bi.
- If it is Cold-Dampness, do the treatment of Cold Bi and Dampness Bi. Heated needle works very well
Example: knee pain (potent points that are also local).
Cold-Dampness: SP-9 (2 Cun needle to reach the bottom, looking) (Tai Yin ascends), ST-36 (Yang Ming descends), GB-34 (Shao Yang), KI-3 (Shao Yin), KI-2. Xin Yan (the eyes of the knees, curious points). Palpate: LR-7, SP-10, ST-33, He Ding (patella). All with heated needle.
