The Shao Yin Layer is one of the hinges, the hinge of the Yin gate. It is composed of the Heart Channel and Kidney Channel.
It is a more complete hinge than Shao Yang because it concerns Fire and Water. It must balance Fire and Water. Again, if the pathogenic energy has penetrated to such a Yin level, normally it is a terrain of deficiency.

- Excess of Water: there is a cooling problem, empty cold. Kidney-Yang Deficiency, Heart-Yang deficiency.
Shao Yin Pattern
Symptoms of cold, Yang deficiency
- Cold in the limbs
- Somnolence, lethargy
- Diarrhea, clear urination
- May have thirst
- Pale tongue
- Weak and fine pulse
Symptoms of heat, Yin deficiency
- Nervousness, restlessness
- Tachycardia
- Insomnia
- Dry mouth and throat
- Heat in 5 hollows: palms of hands, soles of feet and sternum
- Red tongue, without coating
- Rapid, fine pulse
