The Cold Bi syndrome, Painful Bi or Han Bi. Tong Bi can be Bai Hu Feng or Tong Feng.

Symptoms

Cold that attacks and obstructs. Cold produces stasis and stagnation much stronger than wind.

• Intense pain, localized and fixed in location and constant intensity.
• Pain can be stabbing because cold can stagnate the blood, spasmodic at the muscular level, or cramping at the abdominal level.
• Worsens at night.
• Accompanied by significant contractures, tendon retraction.
• Ankylosed joints, rigid, difficulty of movement, with sensation of heaviness. In the long term there may be deformities.
• Aggravated by cold, improves with heat.
• There may be Ma Mu.
• Skin palpation of the joint shows more cold than the opposite side or other joints.
• No sweating. Clear, abundant and frequent urination. Aversion to cold, general feeling of cold.
• Pale tongue with thin white coating, thick if there is dampness.
• Tense and superficial pulse.

Treatment

Eliminate cold, warm channels, eliminate dampness. Especially moxibustion. If difficult to use, lamps.

Globally look at Kidney Yang. CV-4, GV-4, KI-3, GV-14, BL-23, KI-7 to raise Kidney Yang. For example, elderly person with knee pain, KI-7, KI-3 essential for knee. Others: dampness accumulation, cold BL-20, ST-36, SP-5. Always GB-34 for Bi of tendons and muscles (whether cold wind dampness). Jing-River Points on channels eliminate cold and heat, He-Sea points of Yang channels are Earth, transformation, interesting depending on which channel I use. Shu and Jing-River very used for joint pain. If hip, hip points, and so on. But at first, when there is Cold Bi, think of a couple of points for Kidney Yang.
