Exterior fullness and interior emptiness

Empty-type constitution with an attack of external pathogenic energy. For example: cold, flu, contracture, in a person with a pre-existing empty pattern. It is necessary to eliminate the pathogenic energy and strengthen the interior.

Exterior emptiness and interior fullness

Exterior: Wei Qi deficient, spontaneous sweating Interior: stagnation of Qi, Xue, oppression

Heat above and cold below

Escape of Yang. There is heat in the Upper Burner and internal cold. Fire cannot descend

Cold above and heat below

In principle it is good to have a cool head and warm feet. The following would be pathological patterns:

  • Stomach Deficient and Cold and hot Spleen
  • Cold Stomach and hot Large Intestine: eating cold foods causes discomfort, vomiting. Heat in the Lower Burner: constipation, urinary infection.

Exterior heat and interior cold

  • Internal cold constitution (Yang deficiency) with an attack of external heat
  • Stomach heat and Spleen cold: Yang Ming pathway blocked.

Exterior cold and interior heat

Sore throat manifests immediately. First resolve the exterior cold.

Fullness and emptiness

Within a general full pattern there is an empty pattern

Fullness consumes vital energy, consumes Body Fluids (for example, pneumonia leaves one exhausted). Or a prolonged Qi stagnation weakens. Or through inadequate treatment it can turn into an empty pattern. When bleeding occurs or an abscess forms, it is part of the healing process.

Within an empty pattern, fullness can appear

For example, a Spleen-Qi deficiency that generates Phlegm fullness. Or an empty pattern attacked by external pathogenic energy, or Liver-Qi stagnates due to inappropriate emotions. Another example is that with advanced age we lose vital energy, and this very loss hinders the elimination of toxins and waste that accumulate in the body.
