Window of Heaven Points

Window of Heaven Points

Tian You Qi Xue. Window of Heaven points communicate the heavens (the head) with the rest of the body. The Yang channels of the arm carry energy to the head. The Yang channels of the foot descend energy from the head to the rest of the body. There are pathways of distinct channels and Luo vessels that also ascend Qi to the head. In case of affluxes or attacks of pathogenic energy, the Window of Heaven points close to protect the head from the excess of energy that ascends. These points are:

They are not mentioned in ancient texts. In chapter 21 of the Spiritual Axis they are mentioned as a group of points with common characteristics: they treat imbalances between body Qi and head Qi, when blood and Qi ascend in excess.

According to G. Maciocia, "some doctors thought that SI-17 should be GB-9... each of the Yang channels would be represented... with the exception of PC-1 and LU-3, all the points are located on the neck".

They are considered as transit points or bridges that regulate energy and blood that ascends and descends, from and to the head. Qi (energy) commands Xue (blood). If there is too much energy in the head it means there is not enough energy and/or blood in the body, or conversely, if there is excess Qi/Xue in the body, the head will be lacking. Regardless, in this case, wherever the imbalance is located, Window of Heaven points are used both to descend excess if it is in the head as well as to ascend Qi/Xue towards the head if it is in deficiency. According to Maciocia, ST-9 would be the most used to subdue rebellious Qi ascending to the head.

These points act mainly on Lung, Stomach and Liver Qi and have great influence on emotions and thoughts as in cases of anxiety, stress, sadness, anger, etc.

It is said that the brightness in the eyes is the product of shen (spirit), when a person has clarity and nobility it is reflected in the brightness of the eyes. In this way the Window of Heaven points act on the spirit, they allow or impulse clear Qi to ascend towards the sensory orifices "giving them brightness". With this it is said that in confused, obsessive people, with manias, who do not know how to choose their "path" and constantly wrapped in problems, these points help them achieve clarity and "light".
