Liver-Yang rising occurs in a context of Yin deficiency. This deficiency fails to control Yang and makes the terrain vulnerable to acute and sudden surges of energy to the head. A stroke may occur. See also Wind stroke

Symptoms

  • Sudden loss of consciousness
  • Hemiplegia, aphasia, deviation of the mouth
  • Head pain and swelling
  • Vertigo as if in a boat
  • Tremor
  • Instability
  • Nervousness and impatience
  • Numbness of the limbs
  • Red face
  • Dry mouth
  • Tinnitus
  • Dry and red eyes
  • Red tongue, deviated
  • Wiry pulse and rapid

Treatment

  • GV-26: acute wind, helps reconnect Yin and Yang
  • GB-20; GV-16: expels wind
  • Treat the cause: nourish Liver and Kidney Yin, descend Yang. KI-10, SP-6
